i mean, big surprise, food insecurity correlates with disorder around eating & the body. so all these poor ppl are suffering not only from food deprivation and the absolute havoc that causes in the body and brain, but also from one of the deadliest and most life-controlling mental illnesses, which diagnosis has never been permitted them bc it’s only seen as affecting affluent white girls. eating disorder treatment is some of the most expensive in all of mental health… how does a mother who can’t feed her kids get help? is any relief available to people if they continue in poverty, even if treatment were accessible? these questions are almost nonsensical bc poor ppl are so thoroughly barred from the multifaceted help that is needed to recover from disorder. material security is the most basic requirement. but that’s a long term goal… what can we do in the meantime? how do we bring eating disorder informed practice to community mental health care, for the people who need it most?
